Updated Room List

The client (your research designer / artist) would like to ensure that the following needs are met by your design:
First, a rooming list:
  1. Master bedroom (with walk in robe and ensuite)
  2. (Gaudi has no family or lover, I'm thinking of maybe having a single larger master bedroom) minimum two other general bedrooms
    1. a bathroom associated with these two bedrooms
    2. must include a bath and seperate shower
  3. a study / guest bedroom
  4. a studio / workshop
    1. for drawing and art projects, music, etc
  5. Formal living room including capabilities for theatre (movie theatre in modern times) since Gaudi was a big fan of theatre and music.
    1. fireplace
  6. Formal dining room in relation to the area for parties.
  7. Large area for festivities & parties (changed from informal family area)
  8. Large capabilities for studios [Kiln for ceramics, carpentry shop etc (changed from kids play room)
  9. WC
  10. Kitchen
    1. double wall oven (replaced with a hearth with
    2. 2 bowl sink
    3. island benchtop with free standing range hood
    4. walk-in pantry if possible
  11. Laundry (sufficient to do washing, ironing, etc inside the room)
  12. 2 car garage (with additional storage space) & good protection since Gaudi in his younger years was very found of fancy cars. Protecting them is only natural.
Next, relationships:
  1. Bedrooms should be grouped together, although the study / guest bedroom should be associated with the public areas of the house rather than the other bedrooms. Nevertheless, ensure that this room is also able to maintain some degree of privacy when in use by guests.
  2. the walk in robe should be used as a buffer between the bedroom and ensuite. Can also be used as an entrance into bedroom suite, but then must have doors on robes to make it look better
  3. would like a small balcony off of the master bedroom
  4. kitchen to be the hub of the house
  5. garage to have internal access from house

Fianlly, comments:

  1. Want a WOW! reaction when visitors enter our home
  2. lots and lots of natural light - big windows, skylights, etc
  3. want a house that is warm in winter and cool in summer, and inexpensive to run
  4. ensuite does not need a bath tub, but should have a large shower, with a waterfall rose and an adjustable rose
  5. would like a minimum of 8 lineal metres of hanging in the WIR
  6. master bedroom should have a view
  7. king size bed in the master bedroom
  8. kitchen should be big enough for visitors to hang out in when entertaining
  9. Laundry should be big enough to work in effectively
  10. would love a home theatre if you can make it fit! Will make it fit.
  11. high ceilings
  12. . Large Garden, Nature was very important to Gaudi. Need capabilities for heaps of nature to inspire. Maybe a small pavillion on site or something of equal function.

Week 7

Brief for Gaudi Design Week 7

Design a model that incorporates Gaudi and his lifestyle.
The design should be designed as a bachelor space. Antonio never had any family and therefore the spaces in the design should not account for any family spaces but should rather focus on the lifestyle of Gaudi, using Architecture, Religion & Nature.

Gaudi was also a skilled user of ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging and carpentry.
So you would expect that some of these different craftmanships are infused into the model.

Gaudi Research:

*Born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Reus or Riudums

*Biggest Passions: Architecture, Nature, Religion

*Reformed the current architecture so much he needed his own branch, Catalan Modernism
*1852-1926

*No family or wife

*Appreciation of natural architecture

*Mediterrean pride, considered people from the mediterrean had a better mind for creativity and design

*Religious, Catholic

*Neo-Gothic inspiration

*Used handmade 3D models rather than plans and section.

In his younger years Gaudi was a true bachelor enjoying the easy life often in parties and driving fancy cars.

Not much can be said about his love life. There are rumors that he was only ever interested in one woman but that it never turned out. Some believe that his very religious beliefs kept him from women.

In his latter years though, his life took a turn. Going from a carefree bachelor to a hermit, seldom seen and in the very end he was more of a hobo and was not recognized on his death at first.

Your model should have:

*Inspiration from nature

*Skillful use of one or more of the following: ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging, carpentry.

*Neo-Gothic Inspiration

*Extensive 3D model that should have the capacity to be used as a plan (Carry correct scale)

*Bachelor living spaces i.e large bed, man-cave (Studio)

I imagine Gaudi would need a very organic looking bachelor pad that has a studio made for a large number of crafts including ceramics, stained glass, wrought ironwork forging, carpentry as well as room for art and architecture.

Also a car space of any sort that can store a very nice car ( Needs good protection ) ( Gaudi in modern sense) There should also be a large section for entertainment. Since i have chosen to have this brief written for a young Gaudi who frequently enjoyed parties, going to the opera or theatre, there ought to be a good space for enjoying this type of entertainment.

Large outdoor area to find inspiration from nature and of course a small shrine for prayers and religious artifacts .

Spaces Required:

Master Bedroom

Studio

Living Space (Containing large capacity for entertainment, sound systen, TV)

Large outdoor area

Prayer Area/Shrine

Fancy Toilet (Use mentioned craftmanships extensivly) Preferably put in 2 since there might be hosted parties and such

Dinner/Party area

Week 4

Since the structure is a church there isnt much private space. I have drawn the following to explain how the building is used.
Red: Heavy usage for circulation and sightseeing.
Yellow: Less used (Semi Public) in a sense. not that it is especially private just that people rarely use the space and rarely ever glance over there.
Blue: Actually recieves some privacy becasue of the walls but is of course accesible for everyone.

Week 3 Studio

Started on a model that will serve as a mold/sketch for latter assignment.
Ran into a bit of problems with the volume requirement so had to work around it in a few parts.
Next step is to add floor levels that are able to contain all specific room areas.

Reflection and Sources

Working with the paper was interesting. I found it to be quite a lot harder than i thought.
The first design took me a good long while. I tried to get the most important features of Gaudi's la sagrada familia incorporated into the design. Making visible towers and arches.

The second model is more conceptual attempting to put Gaudi's style into one design. I made a wavelike pattern that i feel Gaudi was using in his designs. I tried a technique called crumbling for that one.

The third had to be more realistic and it was very hard to make the paper shape itself after the design.

Working with paper really gave some good ideas for my design. I have always enjoyed using a "carpet" to serve as a feature in a model.
